Kinja'd!!!

People who drive their white cars without their lights on while it's snowing. I don't care if you can see, I can't see you! It's bad enough when other cars drive with no lights on in the snow, but their car isn't the same color as everything else in their environment. Now get off my lawn!

It still amazes me how many grown adults I meet who have never considered that headlights serve a purpose in making a car more visible.

Just because someone has been driving for a long time does not mean they're a good driver. I thank GM and VW and others who made bright daytime running lights standard. Never worry about not having lights on again. Some still need you to "turn on" the lights to activate the rears but always on headlights are arguably more important.

Isn't that what running lights are for? If the visibility's so bad that you need lights on to be seen, it's likely your headlights are scattering off the water in the air and dazzling everyone coming towards you.

I actually think DRLs make the problem worse, especially at dusk or in bad weather. They can see, thanks to the DRLs, but unless you actually turn on the headlights, no tail lights come on, so they are invisible from behind until they inexplicably hit their brakes in the middle of the interstate with no one in front of them.

When I find someone who ought to have their lights on, I make a point to get behind them and flash what I assume is "FUCK YOU, TURN ON YOUR LIGHTS AND GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE, AND GET THE HELL OFF MY LAWN" in Morse code using my brights and or fog lights.

Well in cars like mine, the instrument panel lights are connected to the exterior light switch so if you want to see your gauges, you need to turn on the lights.

"Running lights" always includes white forward directed beams. Anything else (e.g. just red rears and yellow fronts) are "parking lights," and at least where I come from it's illegal to drive with them on.

Maybe you know them as sidelights? We don't have different colour bulbs in them here.

Around here it's an epidemic where people in gray/black cars drive in early morning fog without any lights on.

If it makes you feel better you can watch this youtube video, and see some idiot without his lights not see a barrier in the road and then crash into it. Edit: Oh it didn`t embed the time. Skip to 3:45 for it.

Enjoy.

It's pretty bad here. I always see tons of people during storms driving without lights on, especially when there's low vis.

It makes things difficult.

Day Time Running Lights. The whole WORLD uses them just not the USA

It's illegal to drive with parking lights on? Meaning the front turn signals and rear tails? That's weird.

But I don't run with any lights on my car unless it's raining, snowing, or dark. Never ever during normal daylight weather.

Because unnecessary.

Yes. Actually illegal to drive with a set of lights on that do not include forward directed white beams. I did my driver's education in California. I think I've heard the same is true in at least some other states.

That... doesn't really make any sense to me at all. I could see if that was the case at night, but not during the day. No need for white lights then, unless visibility is impeded otherwise. I know a lot of work trucks use just the turn signal lights and rear tails as "running lights." My Grand Prix has knob with three settings. Off, "running lights" as I described with no white lights, and headlights. In the second setting, I can have fog lights on, but they don't come on automatically. It's a separate switch.

Roughly the same is true of my Audi. And pretty much every other car I can think of, including classics. So that law is ridiculous to me.

It didn't make sense to me either, but it is the law. What jurisdiction are you in, by the way?

Indiana. I highly doubt it's the law here. If it is, nobody pays any attention to it.
